About the project

Yamile Otano was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. With her family being of Cuban descent, she was raised with this latin culture at home. Growing up, dancing was a constant in her household. Her mother knew that she would become a dancer even from a young age.   By the age of 8 years old, Yamile was enrolled in gymnastics, sports, and dance classes.  Her first salsa instructor was an original Sin City Salsera who pushed and motivated her to compete a solo routine at the age of 10 years old in a show. She won her first competition. This was the beginning of her competing in small local competitions where she continued to blow away judges at such a young age. Yamile has always had the biggest passion for Latin music for as a child she already felt it in her veins. She is a kind hearted individual who loves to express her love and passion through the art of movement. She envisions a better world through her positive attitude where she can share that passion with others.

Yamile went to K.O. Knudson middle school, a magnet school for arts where she continued to advance her training in jazz, ballet and hip hop. Though yearly events and showcases hosted by the school, she continued to experience the feeling of being on stage where she loved the spotlight.

Yamile started dancing with Sin City Salseros at the age of 17 and has been training, performing and traveling with them since. She has expanded her knowledge with different and challenging movements of dance with the company where she has been able to expand dancing abilities and skills.
